Conair Hot Rollers

conairhotrollers.jpg

Have you heard? Hot rollers are back! And it's a good thing cuz I have stick straight hair and having a little bounce and life is always a good thing (not that it being "out" ever stopped me, I've always use hot rollers). I totally love these hot rollers from Conair, it heats up quickly (in 2 minutes) and has a velvet covering to protect your hair but the best part, this set comes in all jumbo size rollers, 12 of them. You should only use jumbo rollers to avoid looking like the blue hair set! I used to have to plot out in advance if I wanted to use hot rollers but now I can plug these in and they're ready by the time I change my clothes. I only need to use about 9 or 10 rollers because I am only looking for really loose curls for body, so this takes me no more than 5 minutes to do. I don't leave them on very long - I touch up my make up, take out the rollers and presto, I am looking glamorous and ready to impress the world! Get is at Amazon for $23.72.

Is your hair dirty?

Ever wonder why your hair feels a little bit different every time you shower in someplace other then your home? It’s because of dirty water. Gross, I know. There are all sorts of chemicals and metals and other gross things in your tap water that are not necessarily harmful to your hair, but don’t encourage it to look its best. I recommend getting some sort of water purifier for your shower head. (Very similar to one you’d have on your kitchen sink so you can drink the tap water.) I have one and you wouldn’t believe the difference it has made on my hair. I’m constantly being told how shinny and healthy it looks. Sephora sells one as part of Jonathan Antin’s product line. It’s pretty reasonable at $95. The replacement filters are $55 and can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on how often the shower is used. The world of difference it will make on your hair is worth the minor expense. Water Shower Purification System

My hair is stick straight. I rarely get knots in it. (Don’t tell anyone, but when I’m in a rush, I sometimes leave the house without remembering to brush it. You wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference!) But on the rare occasions that I get a knot, it’s a doozy. My super secret fix is Knotty Girl No Pain Daffodil De-Tangling Spray. It’s made for kids, to help when brushing the snarls that inevitably form in their hair. I love it because it coats the hair and I almost never hear the snap of split ends forming after I’ve used this. The bottle also says it helps remove the “gross stuff that weighs down your hair.” I’ve never noticed a huge difference after using it, but my hair does have a general better feeling about it. I usually chalk it up to the fact that the rare and elusive knot is gone from my head! $7.50 at bigelowchemists.com

Pretty Pave headband

I’ll tell you a secret. Sometimes I get bored with my hair. I both simultaneously love and hate it. It’s long and back and while I’m unnaturally proud of how shiny it is, I hate how stick straight it is. (No really, I’m not kidding! Once, in a grossly misguided decision I got a perm. My hair fell straight within 24 hours.) Anyway, as a consequence I’m always looking for cute wraps and barrettes and pins to put in my hair. Yesterday, I fell in love with this headwrap from Stacey Lapidus. It’s a wonderful sparkly silver with purple trim that will go with lots of clothes I have! I especially love the cute Pave crystal sunburst on it. It fancies up your look without looking to ornate. I have a black tie wedding in May that I’m planning on wearing it to, but I think it’s versatile enough that I think I can wear it lots of places. Plus there's elastic in the headband so it'll actually stay on my head instead of inching backwards like most wraps do. Check out Stacey’s website for a bunch of really cute headbands and other accessories. $100 at www.staceylapidus.com

We all deserve a Redo!

So, you’re on the overnight to Europe, you’ve slept funny, the flight attendant is snapping at you to put up the window shade and your fabulous partner is waiting for you at the airport. You stumble to the bathroom to try and make yourself presentable before you touch down and realize that all your hair products are packed away in your checked baggage for fear that the massive security guard at the airport was going to take away your $35 bottle of shampoo. My recommendation is Redo, from Jonathan Products. This is a line I’m slowly getting into and love more and more with each product I try. Redo is designed to freshen up hair that is a little dirty and a little stale. It lets you rework your hair without washing it. (Which is great, because overwashing can lead to dried out hair!) It’s great smelling and conditions hair while it neutralizes the odor. It also comes in airline approved sizes! It can also be used to refresh skin as well, so use it after flights when the recycled air has wreaked havoc on your skin. Jonathan Product Redo Freshen-Up Mist for Hair & Skin

Shhhhhhh... Don't tell anyone......

Tina%20craig%20refresh.jpgWhat I'm about to share is kind of gross so skip to the next entry if you'd like. Ready? Still here? I only wash my hair twice a week. Yup, rain or shine, twice a week. But I swear it does not look dirty, just ask my friends! I brush it from roots to ends daily with the Mason Pearson brush my sweet friend Terry sent me and it distributes the oils in my hair and makes it look glossy. Is that gross? But I promise I am not one of those crazy smelly people who don't bathe, I just don't believe in washing my hair too often. It keeps my hair free of split ends and you should see how long and healthy it is! Some days I need a little boost and I use P2 refres H air Dry Clean Shine from Philip Pelusi. It's described as "Dry clean in an instant for time crunched people. Removes up to 50% of hair debris sans shower." and I can tell you it does exactly that. Everyone I told about it have bought it and all love it! Look for a distributor near you or call (412) 488-8951 Actually, my hair is a bit too long and I can't wait to see Philip tomorrow in New York for a haircut!! He takes appointments only on Thursdays and Fridays in New York, 212 463 8213, you will seriously get the best haircut of your life!

Here's how it goes down:
Day 1- Straight and shiny hair blown dry
Day 2- Hot rollers (did you know hair curls better when it's a bit dirty?) BabyLiss is my favorite- all giant rollers and none of the tiny annoying rollers that are useless.
Day 3- Ponytail or the Stepford wife "half up" if curls from day before have not completely fizzled.
Day 4- Shampoo!

Jonathan's "Dirt"

I’m a slight bit obsessed with Bravo reality TV shows. “Project Runway” is my obsession, I’m a devout “Top Chef” fan and, for the brief time it was on I became oddly addicted to Jonathan Antin and his crazy band on hairdressers on “Blow Out.” I couldn’t help it. Every time Jonathan broke down and cried at his therapist’s office I felt a little bad for watching, and fell in love with him a little more. Anyone that kooky must be awesome and my new dream was to have him cut my hair one day. Since it didn’t look like that was happening anytime soon I settled for using his line of hair products in the hopes that it would make my hair look as fabulous as his. I began with the much hyped Dirt, a texturizing paste. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it! It’s a water based paste, infused with lemongrass water and almond to help repair and strengthen your hair as it makes it look casually messy. Dirt gives your hair that “I just woke up after a night at the hippest club and now I’m out to brunch with my girlfriends and I’ve only had a few hours sleep but I still look fabulous” hair that all us girls strive for! Dirt is thin so it doesn’t feel like your hair weighs a million pounds and it’s easily absorbed so things won’t stick in your hair. My favorite part of this product is the surprisingly pleasant sweet smell it has. Use sparingly though, too much will make your hair look greasy! $26 at SephoraJonathan Product Dirt Texturizing Paste

A first glance, Philosophy’s all in one shampoo/conditioner/ body wash seems like a great idea. It’s great for traveling, so you don’t have to bring multiple bottles of liquids past suspicious security guards in the airport. It smells amazing, just sweet enough to invoke the cinnamon buns smell, but not sweet where you’ll be afraid of dogs following you down the street. Then you try it and realize it’s probably the most useless product invented. When you’re using it as a body wash it is thick and gooey and barely foams up, and leaves you to wonder if you're actually getting clean at all. But that was nothing compared to the when I tried it on my hair. I have stick-straight hair that wouldn’t stay in a knot of I tied one in myself and this made my hair one big rats nest. I could almost hear my poor follicles breaking as I tried to rinse it out and my hair was an uncontrollable mess for the rest of the day. If you’re looking for that yummy smell without all the hair damage, I recommend Philosophy’s Cinnamon Buns Lip Gloss. It’s the same smell but it does far less damage to you. Oh Mary-Kate. I love you. I really, really do. You were impossible cute on Full House. I’ll happily watch your made for TV spy-caper movies when I’m sick in bed at home and I’m incredibly excited that you seem to have taken up eating again. (Please call Kate Bosworth and tell her how much fun eating is. Please?) I’ll even succumb to an older sister like chuckle at your crazy-bag-lady bohemian outfits every once in a while. Although your bag in this picture does look like a bedazzled canteen, I’ll leave that commentary to the lovely ladies over at Bag Snob. (Hi girls! Don’t you love MK’s shoes?) What I will not tolerate however is the hair. You have pretty hair (when you wash it) and that golden honey color you had going for awhile was awesome. It brought out your rosy cheeks and complemented your pretty blue eyes. The blonde has to go. It makes you look like you’re fourteen and your mis-guided mother decided to let you copy Christina Aguilera’s old Hollywood style just to shut you up. Although the Marilyn look has become a bit tired on Christina, she can pull it off and she rocks it well. You, can not.
